The Lesson’s Motmot is found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America. Its range extends from southern Mexico to western Panama, including Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Colombia. It is a solitary bird that spends most of its time perched on tree branches. It is diurnal and active during the day, resting in tree hollows or dense foliage during the night. The bird is territorial and defends its territory against other birds. Feeds mainly on insects, such as beetles, ants, grasshoppers, and crickets. It also eats spiders, small lizards, and fruits. The bird uses its bill to catch and kill the prey before swallowing it whole.
