Common through much of tropical America, these birds tend to forage inside the foliage of trees but make their presence known with a plaintive whistled call. Forages by perching at various levels in trees and scanning for insects, captured with a short, swift sally and gleaned from vegetation or taken in the air. Not conspicuous except for its distinctive call. Nests in woodpecker holes and other cavities.
