The black-collared hawk (Busarellus nigricollis ) is a species of bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is monotypic within the genus Busarellus. It has a widespread range from western Mexico to Uruguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical swamps, and swamps. This attractive chunky hawk of marshes and wetlands is usually seen perched quietly near water, waiting to swoop down and snatch fish or frogs. The adult is distinctive, with mostly orange plumage and a whitish head (the black collar is often hard to see). Immature birds are brownish overall, duller than the adult, but with a similar pattern.
