The Barbary Ground Squirrel is considered an invasive species and has been present since the 1960's where it was introduced as pets. The squirrel is typically located on the coast of the Western Sahara in Morocco, Algeria and in the vicinity of the Atlas Mountains but has now fully colonised Fuerteventura. This image was taken in Jandia where there were many squrrels present along the beach shrubbery.
