This image of a Golden Eagle was taken in the snowy forests of Finland during a trip to the northern Lappish region. Golden eagles have large home territories, nesting on rocky cliff faces and in trees where it builds a giant nest or 'eyrie'. These nests are often used by successive generations to rear their own young. Golden eagles pair for life. The golden eagle enjoys a wide distribution right across the northern hemisphere, although in Britain the golden eagle is confined almost entirely to Scotland, where it inhabits the wild mountains and glens of the Highlands and also some of the Hebrides.
