This image of a male Blackcap was taken at Crossness Nature Reserve when I was wandering around the site. There were many birds present in a small woodland area and spotted this one after hearing it singing loudly. The blackcap breeds in much of Europe, western Asia and northwestern Africa, and its preferred habitat is mature deciduous woodland. These birds are traditionally summer visitors, typically arriving in March and April and migrating south for the autumn but they are increasingly staying in the UK all year round.
